Strongitharm

John Stanley's nephew John Strongi'th'arm Stanley's raised box tomb in Dukinfield Old Chapel. He married John Stanley's daughter Hannah at Liverpool St Nicholas Church 26 October 1836. He was 25 and she was 16. Only one of their children survived, Horatio Strongi'th'arm Stanley born in 1837. Three other infants did not survive their first year and are also buried here. Hannah herself died aged 25 shortly after the birth of her last child. John never remarried and died himself in 1878.

The following poem is on the lid of the tomb:

Dear Husband don't repine for me,
though in my prime I'm called from thee,
But partially thy love sustains,
Find hope in heaven to meet again,
And let my offspring find in thee,
that love that God delights to see.
