For a long time I was searching for great grandfather George Oliver ostensibly born circa 1836 at Diddlebury or Delbury. I found quite a few baptisms for some children of William and Susan Oliver living at Fernhall's Mill, Diddlebury, but none of these was called George, nor could I find a marriage for William and Susan. The records I did find on the I.G.I. (International Genealogical Index) were taken from the Bishop's Transcript's (BT's), so I ordered the microfilm of the Parish Registers of Diddlebury Parish Church, to view at my Local Family History Centre.

Here I found both the marriage of William and Elizabeth and the birth of their son George, they were as clear as anything on the parish register film, so it seems that both had simply not been copied over onto the BT's. William married Elizabeth Susan Drew on the 8th December 1834 by banns, both could sign their names in really good handwriting, but their witnesses William Evans and Charlotte Roberts couldn't. On later Census returns I found that Elizabeth was born at Dulwich and later found her baptism at Dulwich College, London. Susanna Elizabeth Drew baptised on the 6th August 1815 the daughter of William and Elizabeth Drew. This clears up why she is sometimes called Elizabeth and at others Susan or Susanna. I have some sort of theory that her parents were in service at Dulwich College and that she later entered service herself at Delbury Hall at Diddlebury. William was an agricultural labourer, so was possibly also working for Delbury Hall.
